Austria resumes intl travel from 13 December

After imposing a countrywide lockdown and banning access for the bulk of visitors, Austrian authorities have announced that tourist travel will resume after December 13.

Due to a spike in COVID-19 infection cases, the Austrian government earlier implemented a temporary lockdown. According to, the ban went into effect on November 22, making travel to Austria difficult for the past 16 days and for the next six days.

As a result, once the temporary lockdown is lifted, people who choose to travel to Austria will be permitted to do so as long as the authorities do not impose any additional entrance restrictions.

"A lockdown has been imposed in Austria since November 22 and is expected to last until December 13." Only after that date will tourists be able to visit Austria," according to a statement from Austria's official tourism web.

Those planning to go to Austria after December 13 should be aware that they must still adhere to specific entrance requirements in order to get entry.

A COVID-19 test result, a vaccination certificate, or a recovery certificate are presently required in Austria. If you don't have a vaccination or recovery certificate, you'll need to show a negative PCR test result within 72 hours. Antigen tests that are performed quickly are not accepted.

Those who have a valid vaccination or recovery certificate, on the other hand, are exempt from the testing requirement. Nonetheless, the immunization certificate must state that the holder has received one of the approved vaccines during the previous nine months.

Additionally, everyone, including tourists, is needed to show proof of vaccination or recovery in order to access public venues and participate in various activities while in Austria.

Travelers from Omicron-affected areas, on the other hand, are subject to harsher regulations. Entry is currently prohibited from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
