Spain: Coronavirus numbers continue to fall

The latest daily coronavirus updates issued by the Spanish Ministry of Health continue to provide evidence that the downward curve of infection has now flattened.

The latest announcement on Tuesday afternoon showed that the overall cumulative incidence rate is still stagnant at medium and high risk levels.

According to reports, there are 4962 positive diagnoses, which is the lowest number since August 12, bringing the total since the pandemic reached this country to pandemic to more than 3.2 million, while the 14-day incidence rate has dropped by only 1 to 127.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The 7-day rate also seems to have stabilized, which provides further evidence that the situation has not improved in the past 7 weeks, with almost no change from the 60.7 update on Monday to 59.92 in the latest setting of data.

Among the 17 regions in Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Islands are still the only ones with a low level of risk, with their reported incidence rates exceeding 43. However, in La Rioja, Extremadura, Galicia, Cantabria and Castilla-La Mancha also have ratios below 100, Madrid (222) and The figures for Ceuta (209) and Melilla (468) in North Africa are still worrying.
