On Monday, the Tallahassee Police Department announced the death of Black Lives activist Matter Oluwatoyin Salau, the main voice in city demonstrations after the police assassination of George Floyd. 19-year-old Salau disappeared on Saturday, June 6, after a series of tweets in which she described that she had been sexually assaulted in the morning. Below is everything we know about her death that the police have ruled in the murder case.


Who was Salau?
Oluwatoyin Salau was the new Tallahassee protest leader after the death of George Floyd. “We do it for our brothers and our sisters who were shot, but we do it for every black person because at the end of the day I can’t take off my fucking skin color,” Salau said in one of the most important movies shared on Twitter. “I’m profiled, whether I like it or not.” Salau was also the main defender calling for justice Tony McDade, a black transgender man who was shot and killed by Tallahassee police officers on May 29.

What happened on Saturday, June 6?
On June 6, Salau, who was unsure of home, said on Twitter that she had been sexually assaulted in East Tallahassee by a man who promised her a ride to church after telling him about a previous sexual incident. According to reports, Sims disappeared earlier on Saturday. The police have not stated where or how they were killed, or there was no connection between the two victims. Police said they had detained a 49-year-old man, Aaron Glee Jr., but had no other details about his detention.
